Indoor Air Quality Training Package

The presentation provides a general overview of indoor air quality (IAQ) as an issue in offices. By discussing the types of IAQ issues and complaints, the potential contaminants that could be involved and their effects on occupant health or comfort, the implications on occupant health and productivity can be better understood. The presentation lays out the differences between actual potential health hazards and comfort issues in the office environment. The process and steps to investigate and control this potential exposure problem are discussed.

Overview

Many people currently spend most of their time indoors – for many it averages up to 90% of any day. Thus, if there is the potential for health hazards from indoor contaminants or discomfort from such exposures, there exists the potential for effects on employees – either health effects (rarely) or discomfort (more commonly) that can impact the bottom line through losses in productivity, increased absenteeism, law suits, morale disruption and even workers’ compensation claims and losses. 

Where IAQ issues exist, effected employees could be just a few people up to 30% of the occupants or even more. Ensuring a quick response to complaints and issues and maintaining a healthy environment leads to better productivity, increased comfort, improved morale and a sense of well being in building occupants.
